Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 4 September 2026
These Terms and Conditions apply to roofing services supplied by J&R Roofing Services and to the use of our website at jandrroofingservices.co.uk.
They are intended to explain the basis on which quotations are provided, work is undertaken, payments are made and responsibilities are allocated between J&R Roofing Services and our customers.
By accepting a quotation, instructing us to begin work or otherwise entering into an agreement with J&R Roofing Services, you agree to these Terms and Conditions.

2. Quotations
Unless otherwise stated, quotations provided by J&R Roofing Services are based on the information available at the time of inspection or enquiry.
A quotation may take into account:
- Visible condition of the roof
- Access requirements
- Materials required
- Labour
- Waste removal
- Scaffolding where applicable
- Equipment required
- The extent of visible damage
Quotations are normally provided on a no-obligation basis unless otherwise agreed.
A quotation does not necessarily include work that could not reasonably have been identified before work commenced.
3. Validity of Quotations
Unless otherwise stated in writing, quotations are valid for 30 days from the date of issue.
After this period, J&R Roofing Services reserves the right to revise the quotation to reflect changes including:
- Material prices
- Labour costs
- Supplier charges
- Scaffolding costs
- Access requirements
- Availability of materials
No price increase will be applied to agreed work without reasonable explanation where the change relates to additional or unforeseen work.
4. Acceptance of a Quotation
A contract may be formed when a customer:
- Accepts a quotation in writing
- Accepts by email or message
- Confirms acceptance verbally
- Pays a requested deposit
- Instructs J&R Roofing Services to begin work
Customers should ensure that they understand the scope of work before accepting a quotation.
5. Deposits
A deposit may be required before work begins, particularly for:
- Larger roofing projects
- New roof installations
- Specialist materials
- Scaffolding
- Materials ordered specifically for the customer
The amount and payment terms will be confirmed before work begins.
Where materials have been specially ordered or costs have already been incurred, deposits may become non-refundable to the extent that J&R Roofing Services has already incurred those costs.
6. Payment Terms
Payment terms will normally be stated on the quotation or invoice.
Unless otherwise agreed, payment is due upon completion of the agreed work.
For larger projects, staged payments may be required.
Customers must make payment within the agreed timeframe.
J&R Roofing Services may suspend work where an agreed payment has not been made.
7. Late Payment
Where payment becomes overdue, J&R Roofing Services reserves the right to take reasonable steps to recover outstanding sums.
This may include:
- Written payment reminders
- Debt recovery procedures
- Recovery of reasonable costs associated with collecting the debt
- Interest where legally permitted
This does not affect any statutory rights available to either party.
8. Additional and Unforeseen Work
Roofing work can reveal defects that were not visible during the initial inspection.
Examples may include:
- Rotten timber
- Damaged battens
- Deteriorated roof decking
- Hidden water damage
- Structural defects
- Failed membranes
- Previous inadequate repairs
- Unexpected chimney defects
Where additional work becomes necessary, we will normally explain the issue and, where reasonably possible, agree the additional cost before proceeding.
Emergency work may occasionally be required immediately to make a property safe or weatherproof.
9. Changes Requested by the Customer
If a customer requests changes after work has been agreed, those changes may affect:
- Price
- Materials
- Completion date
- Labour requirements
Any significant change should be agreed before the additional work proceeds.
10. Access to the Property
Customers are responsible for providing reasonable access to the property so that agreed roofing work can be carried out.
This may include access to:
- Driveways
- Gardens
- Loft spaces
- Roof access areas
- Electrical supplies
- Water supplies where reasonably required
Customers should tell us in advance about any known access restrictions.
11. Scaffolding and Access Equipment
Where scaffolding, towers, lifting equipment or other specialist access equipment is required, this may be:
- Included within the quotation
- Charged separately
- Supplied by an independent contractor
The quotation should indicate where significant access costs are expected.
Scaffolding may need to remain in place for a reasonable period before or after roofing work depending on scheduling and collection arrangements.
12. Weather Conditions
Roofing work is dependent on weather conditions.
For health, safety and workmanship reasons, work may need to be postponed or suspended during:
- Heavy rain
- High winds
- Snow
- Ice
- Extreme heat
- Unsafe roof conditions
Weather-related delays are outside the reasonable control of J&R Roofing Services.
We will aim to resume work as soon as conditions allow.
13. Completion Dates
Any dates provided for commencement or completion are estimates unless specifically agreed otherwise in writing.
Completion can be affected by factors such as:
- Weather
- Material availability
- Supplier delays
- Scaffolding
- Additional hidden defects
- Emergency work
- Circumstances outside our reasonable control
We will make reasonable efforts to keep customers informed of significant delays.
14. Materials
Materials will be selected as agreed with the customer or as reasonably appropriate for the roofing work.
Due to manufacturing variations, natural materials and supplier availability, exact colour, texture or appearance may vary.
Existing roofing materials may also have changed in appearance due to age and weather exposure, meaning replacement materials may not match perfectly.
15. Existing Roofs and Previous Work
J&R Roofing Services is not responsible for defects caused by:
- Previous poor workmanship
- Existing structural defects
- Undisclosed problems
- Defective materials installed by others
- Areas outside the agreed scope of work
Where we discover such problems, we will explain them where reasonably possible.
16. Roof Repairs
Roof repairs are intended to address identified defects within the agreed area.
A repair to one section of an older roof does not constitute a guarantee that unrelated areas of the roof will not subsequently fail.
Where a roof is generally deteriorated, we may recommend replacement or more extensive work instead of repeated local repairs.
17. Roof Leaks
Water ingress can sometimes travel along timbers, membranes or internal structures before becoming visible.
The visible location of a leak inside a property may therefore not correspond exactly with the entry point on the roof.
We will use reasonable skill and care to identify and repair the likely source of the leak.
Where multiple defects exist, further repair may occasionally be required.
18. Emergency Roofing Work
Emergency roofing may involve temporary measures designed to:
- Reduce water ingress
- Secure loose materials
- Prevent further damage
- Make the area reasonably safe
Temporary emergency work should not automatically be regarded as a permanent repair unless expressly stated.
Where permanent work is required, this will normally be quoted separately.
19. Customer Responsibilities
Customers should:
- Provide accurate information about known roofing problems
- Disclose previous leaks or repairs where relevant
- Provide safe and reasonable access
- Remove or secure fragile items where work could cause vibration
- Keep children and pets away from work areas
- Follow reasonable safety instructions
- Make payments when due
20. Damage and Vibration
Roofing work can involve hammering, drilling, lifting and other activities that create vibration.
Customers should remove or secure delicate items in loft spaces and rooms directly beneath work areas.
J&R Roofing Services will take reasonable care when working at the property but cannot accept responsibility for damage caused by pre-existing weaknesses or defects that could not reasonably have been identified.
21. Waste and Site Tidiness
Where included within the quotation, roofing waste generated by our work will be removed from the site.
We aim to leave work areas reasonably clean and tidy on completion.
Some dust, debris or small fragments may occur during roofing work despite reasonable precautions.
22. Guarantees and Warranties
Any specific guarantee relating to workmanship or materials will be stated separately where applicable.
Manufacturer warranties may be subject to their own terms and conditions.
No guarantee should be assumed unless it has been confirmed by J&R Roofing Services.
Guarantees may not cover damage caused by:
- Extreme weather events
- Structural movement
- Third-party alterations
- Accidental damage
- Lack of maintenance
- Unrelated roofing defects
- Work subsequently undertaken by another contractor
23. Cancellation by the Customer
Customers may have statutory cancellation rights depending on how and where the contract was entered into.
Where a customer asks us to begin work during a statutory cancellation period, they may be required to pay for work already carried out and costs already incurred if they subsequently cancel.
Where materials have been specially ordered, reasonable associated costs may also be payable.
24. Cancellation by J&R Roofing Services
We reserve the right to cancel or suspend work in circumstances including:
- Unsafe working conditions
- Non-payment
- Abusive or threatening behaviour
- Inability to obtain necessary materials
- Serious access problems
- Circumstances beyond our reasonable control
Where appropriate, we will explain the reason for cancellation or suspension.
25. Consumer Rights
Nothing in these Terms and Conditions is intended to remove or restrict rights that customers have under UK consumer law.
Services supplied to consumers must be performed with reasonable care and skill and within the legal requirements applicable to the contract.
26. Liability
J&R Roofing Services will exercise reasonable care and skill when carrying out roofing work.
We will not be responsible for losses caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
Nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
27. Third-Party Contractors
We may occasionally use specialist contractors or suppliers for elements such as:
- Scaffolding
- Waste collection
- Specialist roofing systems
- Material supply
Where appropriate, these parties remain responsible for their own work and obligations.
28. Photographs of Roofing Work
J&R Roofing Services may photograph roofing work for:
- Project records
- Quality control
- Quotations
- Before-and-after records
- Marketing and portfolio purposes
We will avoid deliberately publishing personal information without an appropriate basis.
Customers may ask us not to use identifiable photographs of their property for marketing purposes.

35. Governing Law
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws applicable in England and Wales.
